Like the Cameroons (Cameroun) Togo was a German protectorate which in 1914 came under shared administration between Britain and France. From 1922 it was formally divided between them under a League of Nations mandate, the British portion being postally linked to the Gold Coast and two-thirds becoming French Togoland.
